Meet your guide at your city centre hotel or on the Edinburgh Castle esplanade and proceed to visit the magnificent Edinburgh Castle. Allow approximately 90 minutes for visiting the castle. Book your tickets online in advance and bring them with you.

After the castle visit your guide will take you down the Royal Mile which is the main medieval thoroughfare leading down to the home of the Queen in Scotland, Holyrood Palace.

Along the way your guide will reveal many of its ancient secrets and tell you some fascinating stories about the colourful people who lived in this area including the notorious Deacon Brodie who became the influence for Robert Louis Stevenson’s Jekyll and Hyde.

Indeed, many famous authors are associated with the Royal Mile ranging from the 19th century novelist Sir Walter Scott to contemporary crime writer Ian Rankin.

You will see many historic buildings and sites along the way including St Giles Cathedral whose history goes back to the 12th century as well as the surprising burial place of one of the most controversial characters in religious history.

At the end of the walk you will arrive at the new Scottish Parliament building on the edge of the stunning Holyrood Park. Opposite the parliament is the official residence of the British Monarch in Scotland, Holyrood Palace which you can visit independently at the end of the tour if you wish
