What we have been doing during lockdown

Two members of the Scottish Tourist Guides Association have won an award for their virtual tours of Edinburgh.

Mike Turpie and Joe Harrower have won the Green Microphone Award for responsible tourist guiding from the Slovenia based G-Guides Academy.

Mike and Joe started their weekly tours live on Facebook in June and have had thousands of viewers from around the globe.

Their tours are live on Facebook every Monday afternoon at 3pm.

Fellow guide John Harbour has also been doing live Facebook tours and has also put together a regular podcast. https://exclusivescottishvisits.co.uk/unique-scotland-podcast/

Three guides – Susan Brown, Helen Houston and Liz Lister – are also doing a regular podcast under the title of Scottish Blethers.

Earlier this year veteran guide Kenneth Hanley made a virtual guided tour of Scotland with his grandson.

Hannah Mackay Tate also had success with virtual tours including one focusing on Edinburgh LBGTQ history.

As winter approaches no doubt we will be seeing more members of the STGA taking advantage of new technology and enabling visitors to see and learn more about Scotland.
