What do a fireman, a Polish war veteran, a Roman Emperor, a horse from Ancient Macedonia, an African explorer, and a dog called Toby, all have in common? They all have ‘Tall Tales’ to be told about them – come and find out on a Tall Tales walk, a walking tour by qualified STGA Blue Badge Guides in Edinburgh’s beautiful city centre.

Partnerning up with Edinburgh Doors Open Days, the Scottish Tourist Guide Association.

Tour Information

This enjoyable, entertaining and informative programme of walking tours runs as part of Doors Open Days 21 on Saturday 25th September 2021 at 2pm (Online ticket sales end 2 hours before the tour departs).

Meet your guide in front of St Giles Cathedral, High Street, Edinburgh EH1 1RE (tours end in St Andrew Square, EH2 2AD).

Children 8 years and older are welcome.

Group Size
We plan to keep the group to 15 including your guide. We will run more than one tour group simultaneously, each with a separate guide.

Our Covid-19 Policy
For your Health & Safety we have carried out a risk assessment of the route.
We are following current official VisitScotland guidelines for guided tours. For your own personal safety, we advise you bring a mask for those ‘pinch-point’ areas busy with people congestion. Test and Protect information will be collected when you book.

The walk lasts around 90 minutes and is approximately 1 mile/1.6km long, including several stops, all out in the open. Starting at St Giles’ Cathedral and ending at St Andrew Square, there are no significant uphill sections – it is almost all level or downhill. Sensible and comfortable shoes are recommended because the ground can be uneven, and there are a few cobbles and kerbs to negotiate.

Disability and Access
Guides can adapt the tour for wheelchair users. Please advise us in advance of any disabilities or access issues and we will do our best to accommodate. Essential carers go free – please contact us. Tours will be conducted entirely outdoors; we will not be going into any buildings.

Virtual Tour
Please note – if you are unable to come on tour physically, you can join us virtually by visiting Doors Day Open and clicking on the link to the virtual tour there

Our tours take place irrespective of weather conditions. Please dress according to the local weather forecast. In the event of extreme weather warnings issued by the UK Met Office, we will assess the situation and inform you if we need to cancel a tour. In this event you will either be offered a place on a different date or offered a refund.

All of our guides are qualified members of the Scottish Tourist Guides Association.
