Terms and Conditions
The Scottish Tourist Guides Association (STGA) make their bookings as an agent for the guide and do not accept any liability in connection with these bookings.
The contract is between you the Client, and the Guide. All guiding fees and conditions should be agreed between yourselves and your guide prior to the commencement of the tour.
The STGA Terms & Conditions and Cancellation Policy apply to all tours booked through our booking service unless explicitly stated otherwise for your booking.
For Driver Guided tours, the STGA Driver Guiding Passenger Policy applies.
STGA Tourist Guiding Fees
All of our guides are their own business operations and thus set their own fees for the services they provide. As a result, guide fees may vary. The fees below are based on past tours booked through our booking service, and are intended as costing guidelines.
English Half Day (up to 4 hrs)
£150 – £175
English Full Day (up to 8 hrs)
£215 – £270
Foreign Language Half Day (up to 4 hrs)
£190 – £215
Foreign Language Full Day (up to 8 hrs)
£275 – £310
Driver Guide Half Day (up to 4 hrs)
£320 – £370
Driver Guide Full Day (up to 8 hrs)
£460 – £520
Some languages which are in high demand may be in excess of these.
Only once ‘your’ guide is located & details such as itinerary etc agreed upon, can the exact fee be confirmed.
Guiding fees, booking fees, and any extra fees are required to be paid in advance of your tour.
When Using Our Guide Booking Service, the Following Booking Fees Apply to Each Guide Booked.

Currency: All quotes and transactions are in £ GBP.
Entrances to paid venues or attractions etc are not included in fees. STGA can book tickets for groups of any size to hundreds of venues across Scotland – please contact our booking service.
Fees quoted do not include overnight accommodation or meals for guides, unless stated otherwise.
For walking tours of 20-25 pax = 1 guide, more than this additional guide(s) are required. To maintain group safety and quality of our tours at all times on walking tours, we recommend that the group size is limited to a maximum of 25 per guide.
How to Pay
Guide / Booking Fees may be paid by the following methods:
Credit or Debit Card (Visa, MasterCard, or JCB) in advance of tour. STGA do not charge an additional fee for paying by card. Card payments can be completed online on our secure payment page.
Bank Transfer payments, in advance. Clients are responsible for ensuring payment in full, in GBP, also covers any bank charges. Overseas payments may attract bank charges (these are approx £7-£10 from European country & £10- £15 from Non European countries) which must be met by the client.
Full Day Tours: On those lasting more than 8 hours, a supplementary payment for each additional hour may be payable. A lunch allowance is also payable.
Half Day Tours: On those lasting more than 4 hours, or ending after 13.00hrs, a supplementary payment for each additional hour may be payable.
Extended Tours: Lunch, dinner, bed & breakfast to be provided. Overtime work and expenses to be negotiated prior to departure.
Travelling expenses: To be negotiated, e.g. to a pick-up point or from drop-off point.
The STGA strongly recommends that passengers arrange for themselves suitable travel, medical, and cancellation insurance.
Cancellation of confirmed tour/ guide booked through STGA:
Full Day Tours: Full fee is payable if tour is cancelled less than 14 Days prior to tour date
Half Day Tours: If less than 7 days notice of cancellation is given, a fee of 50% will be payable; if less than1 business day, full fee will be payable
Extended Tours*: If less than 30 Days notice is given, a fee of 50% will be payable; if less than 14 Days,full fee will be payable.
Booking Fees are non-refundable.
*An extended tour is a tour which lasts for more than one day.
Payments by STGA Members to STGA
Payments made by STGA members for items or services that are not guide services are exempt from all Terms & Conditions and Cancellation policy stated above on this page. Examples of payments that are exempt include payments for subscription fees, member supplies and course fees.
Coat of Arms
The Scottish Tourist Guides Association Coat of Arms is a registered coat of arms, protected by the Court of the Lord Lyon. The Coat of Arms may not be reproduced in any way without prior expressed written consent of the STGA head office.
Under no circumstance may STGA Guide Badges (Blue Badge, Green Badge, and Yellow Badge) be worn by any individuals who are not current practicing members of the STGA.
