Congratulations for STGA Honorary President Neil Oliver

25 November 2011

The STGA hope to be among the first to offer their congratulations to their Honorary President, Neil Oliver, who collects an honorary doctorate in Letters today from Abertay University in Dundee.

Neil Oliver, who is best known for presenting BBC’s ‘Coast’ and ‘Scotland’s History’, will be conferred with the award during Abertay University’s Winter Graduation Ceremony in Dundee’s Caird Hall today, 25th November.

Graduating in 1988 as an archaeologist (with fellow student, now Scottish Tourist Guide, Mary Kemp Clarke), Neil went on to capture the Scottish and British imagination in his commitment to showcasing the landscapes, history, ecology and geography of the United Kingdom through television programmes and books. His voice is also readily recognisable in recent VisitScotland adverts, promoting tourism in Scotland to an international community. He was invited to become the first Honorary President of the STGA in 2010, in recognition of the shared aims and values with our guides in promoting Scotland.
