Ambassadors for Scotland
10 November 2011
Being a great tourist guide involves much more than showing Scotland’s visitors around our stunning scenery and interpreting our past history. STGA Blue and Green Badge guides are passionate ambassadors for Scotland wherever they go, whether it is to England, America or Austrailia or simply on the streets of a Scottish village.
Such is the case for Edinburgh Blue Badge Guide, Ronnie Berri, who has recently returned from Berlin, Germany, after representing our Government’s Aviation team at the 17th World Route Development Forum.

An annual event, the World Route Development Forum is the place for airlines, airports, tourism authorities and other stakeholders to gather and examine air services, discover new market developments and get up-to-speed on the up-and-coming destinations. This year Berlin held the event from the 1st – 4th October 2011, however Vancouver and and Kuala Lumpur have hosted in previous years, whilst next year will go to Abu Dhabi. Ronnie has attended some of these earlier events also, accompanied by other Scottish Tourist Guides.
Ronnie explains his role at the event:
“My job was to run the Scotland stand, conducting whisky tasting every day and be on hand to answer any tourism related questions. This year I was also asked to showcase quality Scottish food and produce, such as Isle of Arran Cheeses and Oatcakes, Inverawe Smoked Salmon and Borders Biscuits. Excitingly for a whisky connoisseur such as myslef, I had the pleasure this year of working alongside Dewar’s Master Blender, Stephanie Macleod, to conduct the whisky tasting.
The show was a great success and the Aviation department where very happy with the event and the outcome. And of course I was very proud to wear my Blue badge throughout the whole show.”
With so much on offer from Scotland, we are confident that Ronnie had one of the easier jobs at the Trade Show!
